You can make our avocado pasta recipe in 15 minutes and you don’t need any special equipment for the creamy avocado sauce, just a bowl and fork.

Our avocado sauce is surprisingly simple to make. It’s super creamy, and you don’t use butter or cream to make it. This is one of my favorite avocado recipes.
When we first shared this recipe, some of our readers thought this was guacamole pasta, but everyone who tried it ended up loving it! We love this recipe so much, we’ve even tried it with sweet potato noodles.
Key Ingredients
- Pasta: I love spaghetti, but use your favorite pasta for this recipe. I’ve also made it using chickpea and lentil pasta, which added some extra protein.
- Avocado: You can make this easy avocado sauce with 1 large avocado. Look for one that’s ripe and slightly gives when you press it.
- Tomato: You can see from my photos that I add a handful of chopped tomatoes to this pasta. They are pretty and add some extra texture.
- Green onion and garlic: I don’t go overboard with the onion and garlic. That’s why I stick with mild green onions and only a ¼ teaspoon of grated garlic (any more, and it will be too strong).
- Lemon juice: Loosens our sauce and adds fresh flavor. Lime works nicely, too.

How to Make Avocado Pasta
Tip 1: Mash the avocado until creamy. Cook your pasta in salted water according to the package directions. While the pasta cooks, make the avocado sauce. Use a fork to mash the avocado in a bowl until it’s smooth and creamy. A few small chunks are fine. The sauce will thin out once we add pasta water.

Tip 2: Use hot pasta water to make the sauce silky. Stir grated garlic, lemon juice, salt, and pepper into the mashed avocado. Then, add a splash of hot pasta water to loosen the mixture and create a creamy sauce. The starchy water helps the sauce cling beautifully to the pasta.

Tip 3: Toss everything together. Add your cooked pasta, green onions, and tomatoes to the bowl. Toss well until the pasta is evenly coated in the avocado sauce. If it seems too thick, stir in a bit more pasta water until it’s creamy and glossy. I do the same when making other simple pastas, like this mushroom pasta.

Serving Suggestions
I love serving this with some baked tofu or poached shrimp added to the top. You can also serve this easy pasta with salad on the side. Try this Greek salad, Caesar salad, or use one of our favorite homemade salad dressings. I especially love homemade ranch, honey mustard dressing, and this tahini dressing (dairy-free).

This was delicious! I used some leftover spaghetti and threw it all in a pan with mushroom, chives, and fresh tomato. I added the lemon juice and also some sundried tomato oil (leftover in the jar, so much flavour). Thanks for a great recipe!
I used this recipe to use some avocados that were going too ripe. and tomatoes from the garden, I NEVER would have considered PASTA SAUCE. But I googled recipes using Avocados and some other ingredients I had on hand I this came up. SO GLAD IT DID! Added some left over bacon from yesterday’s breakfast…finely chopped. I will add your recipe to my list. This was delicious and a nice change from the normal tomato or cream sauce recipes.
Very easy. We’ve made it twice, both times in 30 minutes. By the time you drain the pasta the avocado is squished, combined with lemon, and seasoned. It’s delicious. I know we’ll make it often.
This could not be eaiser ! So delicious, thanks ! Love all the add in suggestions – I plan to add feta and some chopped olives to my leftovers. Oh and I used penne – came out great! Thanks!!!
Wonderful! Love the planned additions 🙂
